Instituto Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Architecture Award
Created with the goal of highlighting and discussing contemporary architectural production, Instituto Tomie Ohtake and AkzoNobel annually present the Instituto Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Architecture Award.
Recognizing inventive projects in Brazilian architecture, the Prize seeks to consider the widest possible range of programs, and to reflect on the direction being taken by contemporary practice. As a result, the prize has itself come to define some of the paths being taken in the field today.
The Award considers recent projects by Brazilian architects under the age of 45, or by foreigners who have been living in the country for at least two years. Each year, ten projects are selected for inclusion in an exhibition, and three of these projects are also awarded international travel opportunities, with the aim of promoting exchange and discussion around different typologies, constructive techniques, and urban configurations.
The partnership between Instituto Tomie Ohtake and AkzoNobel reinforces the Institute’s goals of bringing visibility to and promoting discussions about contemporary architecture and design. It is a sample that substantially complements the Institute’s programming in this area, and that brings to the surface new considerations about the panorama of Brazilian architecture.
