O Instituto Tomie Ohtake funcionará normalmente.
Agradecemos a compreensão.
We are a cultural institution dedicated to the visual arts and their intersections with education, architecture, and design, always in dialogue with other forms of expression and contemporary issues.
Our approach is grounded in research, experimentation, and the development of exhibitions and educational experiences that bring together diverse voices and consider access in its many dimensions.
We are an institution open to everyone. We reject all forms of discrimination based on body, appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religious beliefs.
Our story started in the city of São Paulo, where we were founded in 2001. Since the beginning, we have expanded our presence across the country through educational projects, awards, and training programs, sharing knowledge and building connections to foster partnerships with institutions both nationally and internationally.
Here, the visual arts intersect education, architecture, and design. We engage with contemporary issues and multiple, representative voices. Through our learning vocation, we also create opportunities for educators and students, giving a collective dimension to Tomie Ohtake’s gesture of opening up territories for herself and for others through art.
Purpose
Opening Paths in Art and Life
Our vocation also takes on a public purpose through the ways in which we shape and contribute to society. For this reason, we see ourselves as a being-school: an institution that conceives and develops ambitious educational projects and serves as a reference for educators, whether they come to our headquarters in São Paulo or encounter our work in other cities across Brazil.
We create shared territories of knowledge and practice with other institutions; we invigorate the production of memory in a country that insists on policies of erasure; we mobilize other ways of seeing and thinking; and we recognize projects that allow us to envision a life in common, create possibilities for the imagination, and bring new symbolic repertoires into being.
Every day, we reaffirm Tomie’s intention to create territories where a free attitude encounters art and life.
In doing so, we preserve and nurture the legacy of Tomie Ohtake and her sons, Ruy and Ricardo, and remain committed to the memory and continuity of the knowledge we produce.
